Finally, she obtained her Doctorate of Nursing Practice and post-master’s certificate as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner from the University of South Alabama.
Dr. Thorne-Odem believes in the whole health approach to wellness, considering the physical, emotional, and spiritual factors that promote health. She works closely with patients to develop a plan of care that meets their goals for well-being. She treats a variety of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and many others.
Dr. Thorne-Odem is accepting new adult and pediatric patient appointments for medication management by telehealth. She has limited in-person appointments.
In addition, she provides Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy as a Level 1 trained practitioner. IFS is not family or regular “talk therapy.”
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based therapy for healing trauma and promoting well-being. It views the mind as composed of multiple sub-personalities, or "parts," and a compassionate, core "Self" that leads the system. Examples of parts may be the inner critic part telling us how we should do better or the people pleasing part that wants everyone to like us. These parts strongly influence how we feel and how we act on a daily basis.
IFS focuses on healing wounded parts by fostering self-leadership. IFS is not family therapy. Dr. Richard Schwartz, the developer of IFS, applied systems concepts to the human psyche and determined that, just like in a family, our parts are interconnected and function together. IFS helps us map our different parts, relationships between those parts, and how they interact with our core Self.
Please schedule an initial appointment to see if this modality of therapy is right for you.
